Current Project

Super DC-3 Flight Inspection

Angel Flight 44’s current priority project is preparing the Douglas DC3-S for the coming hurricane season and other potential humanitarian needs. The official hurricane season for the Atlantic Ocean begins June 1st, 2007, and runs until November 30th. Moreover, this year’s severe drought conditions over much of the continental United States poses other potential humanitarian needs from wildfires, tornados and earthquakes to mention a few. Nevertheless, whenever or wherever a need arises for airlifted supplies, Angel Flight 44 will be ready to respond…with your help.

For those of you who have read the book entitled Angel Flight 44, you will remember the tedious work that Glen and his then-74-year old friend “T.W.” had to accomplish in order for the aircraft to be ready for flight missions when Hurricane Katrina hit. At the time, the two had no idea what they were preparing the aircraft to do. This time, the mission of Angel Flight 44 is already clearly established, giving those of us inspired to become partners with this new ministry our own “marching orders” today.

The “Super Gooney” DC3-S is due for another annual “C-Check” in order to satisfy FAA requirements for flight. Although not as intensive as Glen’s original overhaul of the aircraft, this inspection still requires de-cowling the engines, pulling all floorboards, recertifying the transponder, and checking all aircraft systems. Altogether, this will take between 600 and 800 man-hours to complete, at an estimated cost of $30,000 for the project. However, it will be much easier this time because Glen will doing it with help of a team of mechanics—and the friends and partners of the newly birthed Angel Flight 44 ministry.

Please prayerfully consider a single contribution toward this specific project. To further support Angel Flight 44 in its development and ongoing operations, please consider also becoming a monthly partner as well. The contributions link provides information about both options. Again, thank you for teaming up with the ministry of Angel Flight 44.
